The Van Sittart Family Crest

This family may be said to belong as well to the English as to the Dutch aristocracy. It is descended from William Van Sittart, of Dantzic, whose son, Peter Van Sittart, followed the fortunes of the Prince of Orange, and settled in England. His descendants are known, in England, as the Van Sittarts of Shottesbrook, county Berks. We have seen the bookplate of Nicholas Van Sittart, an American Van Sittart, and found it conform. The Rt. Hon. Nicholas Van Sittart of Shottesbrook was created Lord Bexley in 1822 (peerage extinct, 1851).
